Mini Reviews - Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes

Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.

This movie is, just like the greatest detective's mind, brilliant. This is what you expect out of anything that is Sherlock Holmes and its modern pumped-up style really comprehends the classic series. And it really could have been passed as a standard all-action film, but it is not. It is an intelligent mystery detective film with an eccentric and brilliant man on the case where everything you see doesn't makes sense at the beginning and it totally does at the climax. And Guy Ritchie's flavor and style gives the classic character and tale that much needed zest. I mean all he needed to do is drop that dead weight that is Madonna and he is back in the game. Robert Downey Jr. continues to be awesome, playing as the legend himself. And Holmes, like the classic stories, is such an ass-kicker by pwning everyone with his intelligence and brilliance. Of course you have his faithful sidekick, Dr. Watson, played by Jude Law who serves as the bromance part to Holmes. One problem I had is the ending (the last 2 minutes) as it was rushed to make way for the inevitable sequel. Which introduces to an old friend of Holmes, of equal brilliance and more deviousness... You'll find much good action in this film, but getting on the case with Holmes is much more of a blast.

4 and a half out of 5 stars
